Chihuahua snatched on Princes Street in Edinburgh found after being handed over to stranger

A chihuahua that was snatched from the street in Edinburgh yesterday has been reunited with her owner after being pawned off to a stranger.

The dog, called Tinkerbell, was by owner Laila Hepburn and her boyfriend Chris.

Laila's family were offering a £500 reward for any information that could lead to Tinkerbell's return and appealed for people's help in tracking her down.

Following reports on social media of possible sightings of Tinkerbell last night, her owner has confirmed she is back home.

Laila told Edinburgh Live that someone had tried to sell the dog to a man just hours after being stolen.

However, he sent photos of the "new puppy" to his sister, who quickly identified the dog as Tinkerbell from social media.

The man, who does not want to be named, handed over the dog to her rightful owner and even waived the reward money.

Laila said: "I honestly thought I'd never see her again."

A police spokesman said: "We were called around 7.10pm on Sunday, November 24 following reports of a theft of a dog on Princes Street. Enquiries are ongoing."
