Chiefs waive C Jimmy Murray to add WR Byron Pringle on practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a corresponding move in order to add Byron Pringle to the practice squad.

Pringle was recently a roster casualty in De’Anthony Thomas’ return from suspension. The Chiefs expressed interest in bringing him back on the practice if cleared the NFL’s waiver system. Pringle cleared waivers yesterday, and today they made the move to add him to the practice squad.

In order to make space for Pringle, the Chiefs waived interior offensive lineman Jimmy Murray from the practice squad. Multiple reports have confirmed that the second-year center out of Holy Cross has been waived, leaving the Chiefs with no offensive linemen on the practice squad.

Murray joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He spent some time on the practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster in Week 8 of the regular season. The Chiefs dealt with some interior offensive line injuries which required some younger players to join the team. Murray was made inactive for most games, except for Week 10 and 11 where he logged just 12 total snaps on special teams.

Since the Chiefs have an entire backup offensive line on the 53-man roster it made sense for the team to move on from Murray. With four receivers active in Tyreek Hill’s absence, you can see why they’d carry three receivers on the practice squad. In the case of injury, they can quickly elevate any of the three players.

This will be Pringle’s first time on the practice squad. He missed the entirety of the 2018 season with a hamstring injury after being sent to injured reserve ahead of the regular season.
