Chiefs vs. Steelers preseason Week 2 kickoff delayed due to inclement weather

The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers are officially in a weather delay for the preseason Week 2 matchup.

Some stormy weather rolled through Heinz Field, forcing the players off the field and inside the stadium at roughly an hour ahead of the scheduled start time. Fans were also advised to head indoors as the bad weather hit the stadium. It appears to be some rain, lightning and thunder that has forced everyone indoors.

Shortly after they sent players and fans indoors officials announced a weather delay. The original kickoff time has been delayed indefinitely until bad weather passes through the area. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before play can resume. The last thing these teams want to do is have players coming in cold and hurting themselves in a meaningless preseason game.

We’ll update you here as soon as the weather clears the area and we know the new kickoff time.

Update:

According to NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala the NFL expects players to resume warm-ups at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game could begin roughly 20 minutes afterward.

Update 2:

According to the Chiefs official Twitter account, the new projected kickoff time is 7:15 p.m. CT.

Update 3:

NFL Network’s broadcast team is reporting that kickoff has been delayed an additional 15 minutes. 7:30 p.m. CT is the new kickoff time.
