The Jacksonville Jaguars will soon begin their regular season and will do so against a team who most view as the best offensive team in football. And while Jags fans should be happy that they’re getting a top-notch opponent out of the gate at TIAA Bank Field, there is no doubt that the Chiefs present an uphill battle for the Cardiac Cats.
With most NFL analysts predicting the Chiefs to win the AFC conference as a whole, the Jags unsurprisingly will enter their regular season home opener as underdogs by 3-points.
Of course, the Chiefs’ roster is led by 2018’s MVP in Patrick Mahomes, who took the league by storm in his second year after passing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. He’ll also be coming with Pro Bowlers Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill and a newly-signed weapon in LeSean McCoy.
Luckily, the Jags’ defense, which also an elite unit, will be returning most of its starters and will be close to 100 percent healthy Sunday. That should make things interesting as they have players like Jalen Ramsey and Calais Campbell to make it tough on Mahomes, who actually struggled against the Jags in 2018 despite the final score. In fact, his 2018 meeting against them was the only one in which he didn’t throw a touchdown pass. Additionally, he was only able to go 22-of-38 for 313 passing yards and threw two picks.
The Jags without a doubt are well aware of how Mahomes fared against them and will look to slow him down once again. If they can hold their end of the bargain again, the team now have an offense that’s serviceable to get them a win and pull off the upset.
