Chiefs vs. 49ers preseason Week 3 post-game Injury Report

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t suffer near as many injuries against the 49ers this week as they did against the Steelers last week.

Last week they had six players leave the field with an injury. This week they only had one player forced out of the game with an injury. Another reported a sore ankle to the coaching staff after the game.

The player that left the field injured was linebacker Darron Lee, who the team acquired early in the offseason in a trade from the Jets. His injury was reported as a chest injury, but after the game, it was described as a chest contusion. He wasn’t ruled out of the game, but instead questionable to return. That typically indicates that the team was just being cautious, not wanting to risk further injury, especially during a preseason game.

After the game, Andy Reid mentioned that Chad Henne complained of soreness in his ankle. He got up limping in the middle of the second quarter after taking a sack on a third-down play. He didn’t return to the game after that play and the Chiefs turned to Kyle Shurmur perhaps a little early. They don’t yet know the severity of the injury, however, Reid didn’t seem too concerned by it.

The third game of the preseason is typically the last game of the season that the Chiefs play starters. That means they escaped the preseason relatively healthy only losing one contributor, Marcus Kemp, with a long-term injury. You look around the league and see other teams dealing with injuries to starters and it makes you feel thankful that the Chiefs escaped as unscathed as they did.
