Chiefs upgrade pregame ritual with new drum deck

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced an addition to their upper-deck renovations.

This summer Arrowhead Stadium got its first upgrades in over a decade. These changes included updated LED paneling on the team video board, better weatherproofing and new seating for the entire upper deck. The Chiefs apparently found some extra money in their budget to give one of their pregrame rituals an update as well.

Ahead of every game, the Chiefs have a drum ceremony as the fans find their seats. It’s a way to get the crowd loud and engaged in the game. Typically the Chiefs bring in celebrities, members of the community or former players to pound on the drum. Before last season’s AFC championship game, they even had Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt out to lead the pregame ritual.

Typically the drum was placed on the field level, but with the new upgrades it will permanently have a place in the upper deck. Check it out:

Fans who sit in the upper deck will get to see the pregame ritual up close and personal instead of having to watch it take place on the field below. Having a permanent location for the drum, directly beneath the towering video board, should also help bring some attention to the pregame ritual.

Now that they’ve added this feature, who would you like to see pounding the drum in 2019? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
