Jack Fox was a highly productive punter and placekicker hybrid at Rice University.
The St. Louis, Missouri native was a record-setter as a punter during his career at Rice. He holds the school record for most punting yards in a single season and a few other impressive records.
During the 2018 season, Fox sunk 31 punts inside the 20-yard line and 13 punts inside the 10-yard line. As a placekicker he was perfect on extra points, but less than perfect on field goals. He’s shown a strong leg with a career-long punt of 76 yards. For reference that’d be the third-longest punt in Dustin Colquitt’s 14-year career.
His performance in 2018 earned him C-USA special teams player of the year honors. He was also a finalist for the Ray Guy Award in 2018, which recognizes the nations top punter in college football.

Fit with the Chiefs:
Fox is the first undrafted specialist that the Chiefs have brought in for the offseason program since Cairo Santos.
The versatility that Fox brings has to be appealing to the Chiefs and special teams coach Dave Toub. This is a guy who is able to boom punts with distance and hangtime, but also has experience and accuracy as a kicker.
Fox currently is listed as a punter on the Chiefs’ depth chart, but he could potentially be developed by Toub to be a hybrid player in the future. It should be noted that the Chiefs have yet to sign kicker Harrison Butker to a long term contract extension. It’d certainly give the Chiefs a ton of roster flexibility by freeing up one of the specialist slots on the 53-man roster.
Could the Chiefs simply move on from their longtime punter Dustin Colquitt? They don’t need the cap space this year, but they could seek to move on from him long term. Colquitt is the most veteran player on the roster, but he hasn’t seen a dip in production.
The front office could attempt to stash Fox on the practice squad, but it could potentially backfire on them.
