Chiefs to trade CB Rashad Fenton to Falcons

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to make another trade before the NFL’s deadline passed on Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Chiefs are trading CB Rashad Fenton to the Atlanta Falcons. In return, the Chiefs will receive a conditional seventh-round draft pick and clear upwards of $1.4 million in salary cap space.

A former sixth-round draft pick in 2019, Fenton has been one of the NFL’s most underrated cornerbacks during his tenure in Kansas City. With all of the investments the Chiefs made in the secondary this offseason, the writing was on the wall that Fenton’s time in Kansas City was coming to an end. He was in the final year of his rookie deal and had been outplayed by rookies like Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams.

This move frees a space for CB Trent McDuffie to be activated to the 53-man roster from injured reserve. The cap space also opens the possibility of the team going out and signing one of the remaining free agents available like Odell Beckham Jr. or Ndamukong Suh.
