Chiefs to sign Jaguars RT Jawaan Taylor on four-year deal

The Kansas City Chiefs have found their solution at the right tackle position.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have agreed with Jacksonville Jaguars RT Jawaan Taylor on a four-year deal worth $80 million including $60 million in guaranteed money. It’s a big money deal for one of the top free agents on the right side of the line, helping build up their depth after the loss of Andrew Wylie to the Washington Commanders.

With Orlando Brown Jr. likely heading elsewhere too, the Chiefs take the route of locking up the top available right tackle. They’ll still have a decision to make on the left side of the line, but signs now point to that decision being made in the draft. There is potential for Taylor to get an opportunity to play on the left side as well.

As for Taylor, this former second-round draft pick out of the University of Florida in 2019 is just 25 years old and was one of the best pass-blocking right tackles in the NFL just a season ago. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Taylor posted a 2.5% pressure rate on his pass-blocking snaps in 2022, which was good for the third-lowest pressure rate among all tackles in the NFL. That’s a massive upgrade over the performance posted by Andrew Wylie over the course of the 2022 NFL season.

Now, Taylor comes to one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the NFL and will be asked to do plenty more pass-blocking for Kansas City.
