Travis Kelce reaches 450 career receptions faster than any other TE in history

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce didn’t have a huge night against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.

He had four receptions on eight targets for 63 yards and a touchdown. It was hardly a career night for Kelce but he did reach a career milestone. Kelce finished the evening with 452 career receptions, reaching 450 in the fewest games (88) of any tight end in NFL history.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow previously held the record, with 450 catches in 89 games or the San Diego Chargers.

Despite reaching a great individual achievement, Kelce wasn’t celebrating it following the game. The four passes he caught couldn’t make up for the four passes that he didn’t catch. He wasn’t happy with his performance following the game — that much was clear when he spoke to the media in the locker room.

“I’ve got to be better for my team in the fourth quarter,” Kelce said. “I should have caught the ball on [third-and-3 with 5:18 left in the game].”

The Chiefs were unable to come out with a victory against the Packers, and it was clear that Kelce put a lot of the blame on himself for that. It seems he would have gladly traded this achievement for making a crucial third-down catch and coming away with the win.
