Chiefs TE Deon Yelder questionable to return vs. Steelers with ankle injury

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to suffer injuries during the second preseason game of the season.

Second-year TE Deon Yelder had a beautiful 27-yard reception on the sideline just before the end of the first quarter. He got up from that play a little gingerly. He ultimately came out of the game, because something was bothering him.

The Chiefs took to Twitter to announce that Yelder is questionable to return vs. the Steelers with an ankle injury. The Chiefs were already short on tight ends after an injury to John Lovett last week. They added Manasseh Garner recently just to have some extra depth.

Yelder is currently competing with Blake Bell to become the No. 2 tight end for the Chiefs. A significant injury would obviously set him back in that competition. The good news here is that the questionable designation is typically indicative of severity. He’d be ruled out here if it was something significant.

This could potentially open up an opportunity for Nick Keizer to get some significant repetitions and move up the depth chart. He was impressive in preseason Week 1 against the Bengals. Keep an eye on Keizer during the second half of play.

We’ll update you following the game with any significant injury news regarding Yelder.
