Chiefs TE Blake Bell questionable to return with ankle injury

It didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs to run into an injury.

Blake Bell, the No. 2 tight end for Kansas City, has been ruled questionable to return to the game with an ankle injury. It’s not entirely clear when the injury occurred, possibly on special teams kick coverage.

Bell is mostly utilized as a blocking tight end for the Chiefs. He’s been helping on the left side in Eric Fisher’s absence. Deon Yelder has been called into action in his absence. He offers a bit more of a threat in the passing game than he does as a blocker.

Bell was the player flagged for an illegal block early on in the game. So he’d had a negative impact on this game already. We’ll see how his absence impacts the game plan moving forward. Someone else will likely be tasked with helping Cam Erving on the left side of the offensive line.

Special teams will also take a hit in the absence of Bell. He’s a guy who routinely plays 20 or more special teams coverage snaps. Now they’ll call on others to contribute on those plays.
