Chiefs swap out RB Marcus Marshall for OL Ryan Hunter on practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to make a change on the practice squad.

As I noted when Ryan Hunter was waived from the 53-man roster earlier this week, he maintained his practice squad eligibility. The Chiefs have shown that they’re not ready to give up on his development yet, despite his poor showing when thrust into action in Week 5.

According to the NFL’s official transaction report, Kansas City brought Hunter back on the practice squad and released running back Marcus Marshall to make room.

Marshall joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of James Madison following the 2019 NFL draft. He had a good preseason for the Chiefs, which ultimately earned him a spot on the practice squad at the onset of the 2019 NFL season.

Unfortunately for Marshall, the RB position for the Chiefs seems to be one of the deepest spots on the offensive roster. It’s also well noted that the RB position is one of the most replaceable positions in football. There’s a chance that he could always be back with the Chiefs at a later date if they get banged up at the position as the season progresses.

As for Hunter, the Chiefs have already invested time and money in his development. It makes sense that they wouldn’t give up on him after being thrust into action and put in a rough spot against the Colts in Week 5. With any luck, Hunter will be able to learn from that experience. Perhaps it leads to some positive growth for him in the future.
