The Kansas City Chiefs were already struggling at 1-4 this season, including a soul-sapping loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but things just got worse with the news that their All Pro running back Jamaal Charles will miss the rest of the season.

Charles was injured during the defeat to the Bears and on Monday NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported a source as saying the player has a torn ACL.

Charles appeared to confirm the news on his Twitter account when he wished his team “good luck this season”.

Charles is the Chiefs’ most potent offensive weapon and has rushed for over 1,000 yards in five of the past six seasons. An ACL injury also wiped out the majority of his 2011 season.

The Chiefs were leading 17-3 when Charles left the field on Sunday. They imploded after his departure, losing the game 18-17.
