Chiefs sign second-round draft pick Juan Thornhill

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed another of their six picks from the 2019 NFL draft.

Safety Juan Thornhill announced on his Instagram page that he’d officially signed his contract with the Chiefs. Thornhill was drafted in the second round (No. 63 overall) out of Virginia. He’s the fifth player to sign a contract for the Chiefs in this draft class, leaving only third-round pick Khalen Saunders.

IT’S OFFICIAL 📝

This transaction was not on Tuesday’s transaction report, so expect the Chiefs to make it official soon. We don’t have exact contract details, but based on his draft slot we can make an estimate on his contract value. Thornhill will be looking at a four-year contract worth roughly $4.5 million.

The Chiefs seem to be taking care of business early with these draft picks given they have plenty of cap space to get things done. It’s a good strategy if they plan to make a trade after June 1 when they’ll have money available from Eric Berry’s contract expiring.

Update:

The Chiefs have officially announced Thornhill’s contract.
