Chiefs sign DT Braxton Hoyett to practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs have filled their open spot on the practice squad. The team had a free roster spot on the practice squad after losing CB Torry McTyer to the Bengals active roster.

According to the NFL’s official transaction report, the Chiefs have signed free agent defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett to the practice squad. Hoyett entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL draft and spent the offseason with the Tennessee Titans. He played during the preseason and accumulated six tackles over the course of four games.

Ultimately, Hoyett didn’t make it through 53-man roster cuts with the Titans at the beginning of September and has been trying out with teams ever since. Hoyett played collegiately at Mississippi State. He’s listed at 6-feet-2 and 302 pounds and has some versatility to his game, capable of playing a few spots along the defensive line.

The Chiefs could be looking to add some depth along the defensive line after releasing defensive tackle Joey Ivie to make room for Greg Senat. I’m sure that Chiefs fans would have preferred a cornerback on the practice squad, but with the return of Morris Claiborne, it’s probably unnecessary.
