Chiefs should have an answer on Darqueze Dennard soon

Earlier in the week the Chiefs had Bengals free agent corner Darqueze Dennard in for a visit.

Since his visit there has been deafening silence surrounding his market. Many though that because the Chiefs went out and signed Bashaud Breeland, that the Chiefs would be out of the running to acquire Dennard. It appears that assumption is premature, and that the Chiefs are still very much in talks with Dennard.

We should know more on Dennard’s decision soon according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He reports that the Bengals, Chiefs, and another team remain active in their pursuit of Dennard. He also claims that Dennard might make his decision as early as today.

There were some reports that had Dennard seeking to be paid like an outside corner even though he’s mostly played in the slot during his time in Cincinatti. That price could exceed $10 million dollars per year in total contract value, which many believe is too high given his career production.

Could the Chiefs be engaged in a bidding war between the Bengals and an unknown third party for the services of Dennard? I can’t imagine Brett Veach would be willing to fork out significant money to get a deal like this done, but it appears money will ultimately be the deciding factor here. We should know Dennard’s choice and perhaps how the Chiefs value Dennard soon enough.

Update:

It seems the Chiefs have their answer. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bengals have re-signed Dennard. Back to the drawing board for Kansas City.
