The Kansas City Chiefs remain atop the power rankings after their Week 13 win over the Denver Broncos.
Even with the win over a division rival competing for the No. 1 seed in the division, the Chiefs didn’t see any movement in the latest USA TODAY power rankings. They feel to No. 5 after the bye week and they’re still No. 5 in the power rankings after their win in Week 13.
Here’s what USA TODAY’s Nate Davis had to say about Kansas City this week, emphasizing Andy Reid’s post-bye week record:
“Coach Andy Reid is now 20-3 following bye weeks in the regular season – all the more reason for Kansas City to continue its surge toward what could be its fourth consecutive postseason initiated with a week off.”
Perhaps more impressive than the Chiefs’ bye week record is the team’s dominance over the Broncos. Week 13 marked the twelfth consecutive win over Denver, a franchise record for the most consecutive wins against a single opponent.
Davis seems to feel this team is on a collision course for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, even with the New England Patriots currently holding that spot. Our friends at Touchdown Wire, who feel the Chiefs are the fourth-best team in the league, bring up a good point that Davis didn’t mention This win was uncharacteristic for Kansas City because the defense did the majority of the heavy lifting. It feels like that is becoming the new norm as the offense continues to struggle to find week-to-week consistency.
Thankfully, the Chiefs are playing the Raiders in Week 14. The K.C. offense had their best performance of the season against Las Vegas back in Week 10 and that game came on the road. Within the confines of Arrowhead Stadium, that unit could get back on track in a way that could propel them through the remainder of their regular-season schedule.
