Chiefs S Tyrann Mathieu questionable to return vs. Steelers with shoulder injury

The Kansas City Chiefs are unlikely to see Tyrann Mathieu return to this game.

Mathieu was replaced, after the first defensive series, by first-year safety Juan Thornhill. The assumption was that the team was rotating some players in and out of the lineup, but it appears the Mathieu did suffer an injury.

The Chiefs announced via their Twitter account that Mathieu is questionable to return to the game with a shoulder injury. That is not exactly what you want to hear about during the preseason, playing a meaningless football game. The good news is that the injury is not expected to be a serious one.

The team sent official word to the Chiefs media members in the press box at Pittsburgh that this injury is not serious, but instead a convenient excuse to mix in some of their younger players. I fully expect to hear the words contusion or bruise after the game.

Sure enough, we’ll hear more about this injury following the conclusion of the game. For the time being, enjoy the young guys like Juan Thornhill working in there for the Chiefs.
