The wife of Chiefs defensive tackle Roy Miller told police he grabbed her hair and shoved her, leading to his arrest early Saturday morning, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.
Miller, 30, is being investigated for domestic battery by the state attorney's office in Florida. He was held in jail without bond until he appeared in court Saturday afternoon. He was released under his own recognizance and given a Nov. 28 court date, according to the sheriff's office.
According to the sheriff's office report, police were dispatched to Miller's residence shortly after midnight Saturday. The responding officer found a cut on Nicole Miller's face, a scratch on the back of her neck and a braid torn out from the back of her head. Five children, four under the age of 10, were in the house at the time.
Nicole Miller, 39, told police Roy Miller had left her behind at the Jacksonville Zoo, where the couple had gone on a date Friday night. She took an Uber home and did not find Roy Miller in the house, she said.
The two began to argue when Roy Miller arrived, according to the report, and the confrontation turned physical.
Nicole Miller told police she was grabbed by the hair and pushed around. Her shirt was almost torn off, according to the report.
She said Roy Miller threw her cellphone in the toilet and physically restrained her from retrieving it. She was able to contact police "after a brief struggle," at which point she said Roy Miller barricaded himself in a bedroom with one of her sons.
One witness told an officer she saw "her dad on top of her mom."
Another witness, who told police she had been staying with couple, said she ushered the children to the other side of the house when the argument began. She heard "thumping" inside a room and said she saw Roy Miller try to keep Nicole Miller from removing her phone from the toilet.
Later, police found Roy Miller asleep in the master bedroom. He agreed to speak with an officer outside the house and was arrested. Nicole Miller, who said the couple has been married six and a half years, declined to provide a written statement.
Both had used alcohol that night, according to the report.
Miller, who is 6 feet 2 and 318 pounds, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009. He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013-16. The Chiefs signed him in August.
He has appeared in seven games this season and made two tackles, including one in the Chiefs' 28-17 loss to the Cowboys in Dallas last week.
The Chiefs issued this statement Saturday:
"This morning we were informed about an incident involving one of our players, Roy Miller. We are still in the process of gathering details on the situation. We will have no further comment at this time."
