Chiefs rookie CB BoPete Keyes passes physical, activated from non-football injury list

The cornerback that the Kansas City Chiefs traded into the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select hit the practice field for the first time on Sunday.

BoPete Keyes had been absent from practice on the non-football injury list with an orbital fracture, an eye socket injury, which occurred prior to being drafted by Kansas City. According to the NFL’s transaction report, Keyes officially passed his physical. This allowed him to participate in the third padded practice for the Chiefs, it also means he’s been removed from the non-football injury list.

This return comes at the perfect time for Kansas City as the team just lost CB Alex Brown to injured reserve with an ACL injury. They’re also dealing with soft tissue injuries for CBs Antonio Hamilton and Lavert Hill.

Keyes was drafted out of Tulane with Pick No. 237 in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded 95 total tackles, two interceptions and 15 passes defended in his four seasons with the Green Wave.

Don’t let his draft status fool you though, the Chiefs are high on Keyes and think he can develop into a starting cornerback in the future. Right now, it’ll be about getting him repetitions and caught up in on-field work ahead of the start of the season.
