For the fifth straight week, the Kansas City Chiefs remain the No. 2 team in USA Today’s power rankings.
I almost expected them to drop a spot this week because everyone expected them to beat the Lions silly. Instead, it was a tightly contested game that they almost fumbled away. Luckily for the Chiefs, the Patriots also had a tough game and a struggle on offense, so there was no movement in the power rankings for either team.
Here’s a look at what Nate Davis had to say about the Chiefs this week:
“Of next five games, one is on road (Denver) and one is against team above .500 (Packers). This is the time to put AFC West out of reach.”
Davis is completely right, the Chiefs have a chance to put the AFC West out of reach. Four of the next five games are played at home for the Chiefs and the only road game is in Denver. They could be looking at a 9-0 start to the season if all goes according to plan.
The Chiefs are still 2 games ahead of each team in the AFC West and their division rivals are all facing struggles. The team is slated to get Morris Claiborne back from suspension this week, which should potentially help the defense tighten some things up. The Chiefs are also inching closer toward the returns of Tyreek Hill, Damien Williams and Eric Fisher. That should provide them with a much-needed boost on the offensive side of the ball.
Despite some improvements on the horizon, don’t expect much movement from the Chiefs in these power rankings unless the Patriots miraculously drop a game.
