Chiefs RB Darrel Williams highlighted as fantasy football sleeper in Week 4

People are starting to catch on that Darrel Williams might be due for an expanded role with the Kansas City Chiefs offense.

After an impressive performance in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, Darrel could be primed for another solid week with Damien Williams still sidelined with a knee injury. Even after Damien returns, there’s a growing belief that Darrel will still continue to get carries as the No. 2 RB behind LeSean McCoy.

This week, Touchdown Wire’s Pat Yasinskas highlighted Darrel as a player that could potentially get even more touches against Detroit:

“The Chiefs came into the season with a crowded backfield. But Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy are dealing with injuries. That opened the door for Darrel Williams in Week 3 against Baltimore has he ran nine times for 62 yards and caught five passes for 47 yards. He’s moved ahead of Darwin Thompson on the depth chart and should get more touches this week against Detroit.”

McCoy is likely to play, but the Chiefs could certainly look to lessen the burden on McCoy by going to Darrel more often. He’s been quite successful in the rushing game, pass protection and catching the football. He can potentially be a 3-down RB for the Chiefs if they need him to be.

Darrel’s emergence hasn’t been a big surprise to those in Kansas City, especially to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

“I already knew that he’s a playmaker,” Mahomes said on Wednesday. “He’s a guy that when he gets his opportunity, he makes play. You saw it a little bit at the end of last season where he got in the game and was ready to go after not playing really the whole season until then, and then now him getting in. He’s always prepared and makes sure he’s ready to go, and when he gets the opportunity, he makes the most of it.”

He’ll likely see some more opportunities this week as the Chiefs head to Detroit to face the Lions at Ford Field. Look for Darrel to continue to make the most of his touches.
