Chiefs RB Damien Williams exits late vs. Raiders with knee injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have seemingly suffered another injury on the offensive side of the ball.

Starting RB Damien Williams left the game in the fourth quarter and was ruled questionable to return with a knee injury. The Chiefs didn’t do much running on Sunday against the Raiders with just 28 yards on 20 rushing attempts split between LeSean McCoy and Williams. One area where Williams was quite successful against the Raiders was catching the football, recording three receptions for 48 yards.

It’s not clear whether the Chiefs took Williams out as a precaution late in the game or if this is a more serious injury. We’ll likely hear from Andy Reid regarding the injury after the conclusion of the game.

One thing that was encouraging about Williams’ injury is that he was spotted on the sideline with his helmet. It wasn’t something where he needed to head to the locker room early. That would indicate that the Chiefs are merely being cautious with an important player on the offense. It’s possible that Williams comes out of this with just a knee contusion.

Needless to say, we’ll be paying close attention to the status of Williams this week as the Chiefs head back to Arrowhead Stadium for their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
