Chiefs-Rams shootout wins ESPY for ‘Best Game’

Earlier this evening, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the ESPY for “Best NFL Player.” It happened ahead of the awards ceremony, on the red carpet. Later, Mahomes shared in another ESPY, and no, it wasn’t the “Best Male Athlete” award.

The Chiefs-Rams “Monday Night Football” game shared the ESPY for “Best Game.” Mahomes and Rams quarterback Jared Goff accepted the award on behalf of their teams.

The game was originally slated to take place in Mexico City but was moved to Los Angeles because Estadio Azteca’s turf was unplayable. The Rams won 54-51 in the highest-scoring Monday night game ever.

It was an intense, grueling and high-scoring affair. By the end of the game, the players were visibly gassed, but the fans were begging for it to go into overtime. It was that good.

The game featured over 1,000 yards of total offense and  a little bit of good defensive play too. Mahomes threw for six touchdown passes, though he’ll likely be remembered more for being on the losing side.

It was easily the best game of the entire 2018 NFL season. At the ESPYs, it bested LSU vs. Texas A&M in college football and UConn vs. Notre Dame in the women’s basketball Final Four.
