What can’t Patrick Mahomes do?
He’s the NFL’s MVP, he’s a great basketball player, a great golfer, and he isn’t half bad when he picks up a video game controller. Now he’s going to add a new talent to his repertoire and join ABC’s 2019 NFL draft coverage.
According to a press release from ABC, Mahomes will join, “Robin Roberts of ‘Good Morning America’ on the set before the first pick during the prime-time broadcast of Round 1.” The College GameDay crew will also be part of ABC’s coverage, and they also claim to have more special guests like Mahomes to be announced at a later date.
Mahomes, of course, was a top-10 pick in the 2017 NFL draft. He’ll provide a unique insight into the NFL draft process. It appears that ABC is taking a different, more humanized approach to their coverage of the NFL draft. Here’s how they described their coverage:
“ABC will provide differentiated coverage that focuses on the journey of the NFL Draft prospects, as viewers go up close and personal to understand the part their families play in their success and the hard work involved in attempting to become an NFL Draft selection.”
That has potential to be a pretty interesting alternative look to the NFL draft process. What will be interesting is if Mahomes is around when the Chiefs come on the clock at pick No. 29. Will Chiefs Kingdom get an instant reaction from their quarterback to the player the team selects in the first round? Only time will tell, but it’s worth monitoring ABC’s coverage.
The NFL draft is just a month away, with its open coming on Thursday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
