Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ruled out with right knee injury

The reigning NFL MVP will not return against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs have quickly ruled out QB Patrick Mahomes with a right knee injury. Mahomes took a quarterback sneak for a first down late in the second quarter. As they peeled off the pile, it was apparent that Mahomes had suffered an injury on the play. He was on the ground in a significant amount of pain and he was unable to get to his feet.

The training staff came over and appeared to work on his right knee, popping the kneecap back into place.

Mahomes was able to get up and walk off the field under his own power after the training staff worked on him. He seemed confident, calm and in much less pain as he walked to the locker room.

One thing that is rather concerning is how quickly Mahomes was ruled out relative to getting imaging done on his knee. Obviously, the scene on the field tells you that this could be a significant injury. We’ll just have to see what kind of updates the Chiefs have after the game.

For now, backup QB Matt Moore is in the game and leading the Chiefs’ offense. He’s the only other quarterback active for the Chiefs tonight.
