Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes remains in NFL’s concussion protocol

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes practiced for the third consecutive day on Friday yet remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid indicated on Friday that both Mahomes and CB Bashaud Breeland are still in the league-mandated return-to-participation protocols. Following the conclusion of practice today, both players were set to be tested by an independent neurologist, with the next step being full clearance ahead of the AFC Championship Game.

“They should be good to go if they pass that part,” Reid told reporters. “Listen, I mean they seem to be doing well. I’m not a doctor here, so they’ve been poked and pronged and done everything here. Tested and re-tested here. They’ve got to go back through and do the final one now and just see where we’re at. They’ve done well and they’ve looked and acted normal since they’ve been out here, but I rely on the docs. I’m not a medical expert by any means.”

Right now, there’s no cause for alarm as it relates to Mahomes’ status. It’s very likely that Mahomes will even be listed as questionable on the final injury report released later today as the team awaits the results of the neurological testing.
