The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of their second practice of the week as they prepare to face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.
The status of star QB Patrick Mahomes remains in question leading up to the game, but there was a positive sign today that everything remains trending in the right direction. Mahomes was spotted during the portion of practice open to the media, warming up with his teammates, doing stretches and individual drills while wearing a helmet.
Our friend at WDAF-TV, Harold R. Kuntz, captured some video footage of Mahomes at practice and he looks pretty good out there. Check it out:

Yesterday, Mahomes was listed as a limited participant in practice. He practiced without a helmet in what was deemed a ‘light’ day for everyone involved. Wearing a helmet in practice today shows that there were no setbacks in the NFL’s return-to-participation protocols. It suggests that he’s in phase 4 (non-contact training) or possibly even phase 5 (full football activity) of the steps necessary to return from a concussion. It’s entirely possible that Mahomes is able to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol by today or tomorrow.
A number of other injured players seemed to be out at practice as well including Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Sammy Watkins, Rashad Fenton and Bashaud Breeland. We’ll find out all of their official practice statuses later this afternoon, but things look good for each of these players, but most importantly for Mahomes.
