Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes named Sportsman of Year by Kansas City Sports Commission

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is probably in need of a bigger trophy case.

He’ll be receiving another award to go along with his NFL MVP and AFC Offensive Player of the Year awards. However, this award showcases more than just Mahomes’ play during the 2018 season. The Kansas City Sports Commission has named Mahomes their Marriott Downtown Sportsman of the Year.

Here is how the Kansas City Sports Commission describes the award on their website:

“Kansas City Marriott Downtown Sportsman of the Year is given to a local male athlete who is currently participating in amateur, high school, collegiate or professional sports.  This athlete exemplifies all the positive aspects of sport and has made a positive impact on the Kansas City community.”

According to the release from the commission, Mahomes won’t be the only one receiving awards. He will join Stanford University’s two-time women’s volleyball national champions Jenna Gray and Audrianna Fitzmorris, Kansas City T-Bones GM Chris Browne, Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball head coach Ben McCollum and William Jewell College assistant softball coach Paige Parker.

They will be honored at the KC Sports Awards Banquet on June 13. The event is not open to the public, but you can become a sponsor for the event and purchase a table. For more information, visit sportkc.org.
