Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes injures knee, won’t return vs. Broncos

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes converted a 4th-and-short situation on a QB sneak in the second quarter of Thursday’s game against the Broncos but injured himself in the process.

Mahomes had to be helped off the field and was taken to Kansas City’s locker room. Mahomes was replaced by Matt Moore.

With Moore in at quarterback, the Chiefs were forced to settle for a field goal, extending their lead to 13-6 midway through the second quarter.

Kansas City announced that Mahomes suffered a knee injury and will not return to the game. Mahomes had been playing through an ankle injury before suffering the knee injury. The fact that the Chiefs ruled him out so quickly might be a bad sign for the quarterback.

Mahomes earned NFL MVP honors last season after throwing 50 touchdown passes and adding two more scores on the ground. Before leaving Thursday’s game, Mahomes had accounted for 15 touchdowns this season.

Moore started two games for the Dolphins in 2017 and threw four touchdown passes with five interceptions.
