Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes expected to start vs. Titans

The Kansas City Chiefs will finally see the return of starting QB Patrick Mahomes on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans

After a week of full practice participation, the team has seen enough from Mahomes. They feel he’s recovered from a kneecap dislocation injury suffered in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos and that the risk of reinjury is low enough to put him back out there. It’s safe to say they won’t be calling any more quarterback sneaks with Mahomes anytime soon.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid did add the disclaimer that if something changes with Mahomes’ health between now and Sunday, plans could be altered. They don’t expect that to happen, though, as Mahomes has reported no pain or other setbacks.

This was a joint decision between the training staff, doctors, the coaching staff and Mahomes to ensure they weren’t rushing him back from injury.

Mahomes did mention that he’ll wear a brace and that he has been wearing a brace in practice. It’s something that isn’t so much for the protection of the kneecap as much as it is for Mahomes to have more confidence in his knee. Think of it as the placebo effect and not something that he’ll need to use permanently.

It’ll be interesting to see how quickly Mahomes will be able to get back into the swing of things. Two weeks seems like a relatively short period, but knowing the type of competitor Mahomes is, he’ll be eager to pick up where he left off and get this offense firing on all cylinders.
