Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes battling through ankle injury

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has shown off some incredible grit and toughness against the Jacksonville Jaguars today.

Fans feared the worst when Mahomes had his left ankle pinned under a defender in the second quarter. He limped off the field and into the blue tent. Initially, he had to get some help off the field leaning on a member of the training staff.

Matt Moore was warming up on the sideline and appeared ready to come in to play. Luckily, the officials spent a significant amount of time handling the extracurriculars that took place on the same play. Those resulted in the ejection of Jaguars star linebacker Myles Jack.

Mahomes had time to emerge from the tent with a heavily taped left ankle and test it out on the sidelines. He seemed to be in some discomfort but determined to battle through his injury. After returning to the game he took a few hits and kept battling through it for his team and teammates. The toughness to battle through whatever he’s dealing with is incredible.

The protection from the offensive line needs to get better during the second half. It’s starting to look like what he had to deal with playing at Texas Tech and in the Big 12 out there. Mahomes clearly doesn’t have his usual mobility and will need to rely on the Chiefs’ scheme and his weapons to make the magic happen moving forward.
