Chiefs’ players react to free agent Tyrann Mathieu’s pending deal with Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign former Cardinals and Texans safety Tyrann Mathieu. It won’t officially happen until March 13th at 3:00 pm CT when the new league year begins, but he has plans to sign with the team.

Once word came out about his signing Chiefs fans were overjoyed. Mathieu brings desperately needed leadership and attitude to a Chiefs defense that wasn’t getting it done in 2018. Chiefs fans weren’t the only ones elated by the news though. Mathieu’s new teammates took to social media to welcome him to the squad and pump up Chiefs Kingdom for his eventual arrival.

Take a look:

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is aware of Mathieu’s nickname, the “Honey Badger” which dates back to his college football days at LSU. He posted a .gif of a honey badger on his twitter feed. Anything Mahomes tweets is going to get traction, but this tweet quickly went viral.

Defensive lineman Chris Jones seems quite excited about Mathieu’s attitude regarding winning a championship. That’s the ultimate goal in Kansas City and it’s clear that Mathieu has that same goal in mind.

One of the Chiefs’ 2018 rookies weighed in. Dorian O’Daniel sent Mathieu a nice little welcome to Chiefs Kingdom message. The fire emoji’s have me thinking that O’Daniel is a fan of adding Mathieu to the defense.

The Cheetah and the Honey Badger. The Chiefs have a jungle full of talent on both sides of the ball, but they’re not done yet. What other animals will they add during the 2019 free agency period?
