Chiefs’ players react to Emmanuel Ogbah trade

The Chiefs have a new player on the roster.

The Cleveland Browns reported for their voluntary offseason program on Monday. Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah didn’t show up after his name appeared in trade talks following the Browns’ trade for Olivier Vernon. Hours later, the Chiefs and Browns agreed to a trade that sent Ogbah to the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had a significant need for depth along the defensive line after releasing Justin Houston and trading Dee Ford this offseason. Now, the Chiefs have added some depth, but this is also a good move from a financial standpoint. By trading away Eric Murray and acquiring Ogbah the Chiefs have actually gained some cap space.

The benefits of the deal are great, but the Chiefs have also landed a player that seems to want to be here. Moments after the trade was announced here was Ogbah’s reaction:

Ogbah wasn’t the only one with a reaction either, his new teammates quickly welcomed him with open arms on Twitter.

Tyrann Mathieu is clearly taking well to the leadership role he’s landed on the defense.

Chris Jones is certainly feeling good about playing next to Ogbah on gamedays.

Ogbah joins a defensive front that has quite a few players of Nigerian descent including Derrick Nnadi and Alex Okafor. That’s a nice common bond for defensive line room to now share.

The Chiefs also lost a teammate today in Eric Murray, who has been with team since 2016. While his former teammates weren’t as vocal on social media, they undoubtedly appreciate his time with the team and will miss his presence.
