Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce to play in American Century Championship golf tournament

A pair of Kansas City Chiefs players will participate in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will both play in the tournament, which benefits social justice initiatives, COVID-19 relief funds and regional Lake Tahoe non-profit organizations. For Mahomes, this will be his first time playing in the tournament.

“As a company that’s been headquartered in Kansas City since 1958, American Century Investments is excited and proud to welcome KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to this year’s tournament,” said Jonathan Thomas, American Century president and chief executive officer, in a press release. “While this year will be a different experience for the players and fans alike due to the pandemic, what hasn’t changed is our continued focus on having a positive impact on the world by supporting incredible charities.”

For those concerned about the health and safety of the Chiefs’ star players, the American Century Championship won’t have spectators and will follow strict social distancing guidelines in accordance with state and local government protocols.

The tournament is set to be played from July 10-12 and broadcast on NBC networks. Friday’s round will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, while Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast on NBC. The celebrities will play a 54-hole format, which has previously been referred to as the “Super Bowl of celebrity golf.” That should give Mahomes and Kelce a nice advantage, fresh off their Super Bowl LIV victory.

Mahomes and Kelce will be joined by former Chiefs running back Marcus Allen, former Chiefs linebacker and current Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Chiefs superfan Rob Riggle will also be playing in the tournament.
