Chiefs owner Clark Hunt to chair NFL finance committee

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt will be wearing a new hat during the 2019 season.

According to several reports, Hunt will take over as the NFL’s finance committee chairman. This role was previously held by Texans owner Bob McNair, who died in November. Hunt previously held the position of chairman of the international committee but has left that post with this new role.

Hunt has been on the finance committee for the past seven years, so this will likely be a smooth transition. The committee comprises about 10 owners, including the Falcons’ Arthur Blank, the Colts’ Jim Irsay and the Jaguars’ Shahid Khan.

CBS Sports analyst Amy Trask, a former NFL executive, weighed in on Hunt’s promotion, saying the finance committee is the most powerful committee in the NFL. This makes sense if you believe in the old adage “money is power.”

Trask also believes that Hunt is a great choice to be the committee’s chairman. She cited personal experience working with him on league matters.

In short, the Chiefs owner is now in charge of the most powerful committee in the NFL. Hunt will have a hand in how the league makes and spends money. The finance committee also deals in subjects like team debt limits, expansion teams, team relocation and buying/selling of teams.
