Chiefs open as slight favorites against Bills in Week 5

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a Week 4 non-conference win against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was their first win since the opening week of the season and a much-needed one at that. The Buffalo Bills are coming off of a convincing 40-0 victory over the Houston Texans, their second victory this season where they allowed no points to an opponent.

The Chiefs and Bills will face off on one of the NFL’s biggest stages on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 5. Oddsmakers are predicting a close game between AFC conference heavyweights, but still favoring the home team. According to Tipico Sportsbook, Kansas City will be a 2.5-point favorite over Buffalo with an over/under point total of 56.5 points scored. That’d put the final score somewhere around Chiefs 30, Bills 27.

Buffalo returns to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since last year’s AFC Championship Game. They’ll surely be looking for a little revenge in Kansas City against a Chiefs team that is 2-2 through the first two games to start the season. Dropping a game to the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers already, a win against the Bills would do a lot for Kansas City in the eventual AFC playoff picture. Conversely, a loss could severely damage their chances of a playoff berth before the Chiefs even get into the meat of their schedule.

I’m a bit surprised that the oddsmakers aren’t predicting more of an offensive explosion in this game. Both teams scored 40 or more points in Week 5 and have scored at least 24 in the past three weeks of play. You might want to consider taking the over on that one.
