Chiefs open as home underdogs to Bills in Week 6

For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Kansas City Chiefs have opened as underdogs in their home stadium.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, Kansas City (4-1) are 2.5-point underdogs to Buffalo next Sunday (4-1). The over/under point total is set at 54.5 points scored. The money line is now +177 for the Chiefs, giving K.C. a 36.1% implied win probability. Keep in mind this Kansas City team is now 2-3 against the spread this season and they’re also 3-2 on the over/under point total.

You have to go all the way back to Alex Smith’s days as the team’s starting quarterback to find the last time that the Chiefs were underdogs at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes has appeared in eight games where he’s been an underdog during his career, but they’ve all come on the road or at a neutral stadium. He’s 7-0-1 against the spread in those games.

It’s a little surprising that the spread isn’t closer seeing as both teams share the same record. The Bills are coming off of a dominant performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but their recent history against the Chiefs would suggest Week 6 will be a much closer fight.

This game has been considered one of the premier matchups of the regular season after Kansas City’s divisional-round victory over Buffalo last year. It remains to be seen if the game will live up to the hype, but if it’s anything like the last matchup between these two clubs, it’ll be a must-see game.
