The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Washington Commanders in preseason Week 2. They also escaped the game relatively injury-free.
Chiefs starting CB Rashad Fenton left the game early due to injury. The team had just got him back at practice after he began training camp on the active/PUP list due to offseason shoulder surgery. Fenton was ruled out of the game early with a groin injury.
After the game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid updated reporters on the injury, which he says was the team’s lone injury of the night.
“Alright, as far as the injuries go, really, (Rashad) Fenton was the only one,” Reid told reporters. “His groin tightened up on him. It doesn’t look like it’s a pull, but it definitely tightened up on him. We got him out of there. Other than that, everybody that started (the game) finished (the game).”
Groin injuries can be tricky, so getting Fenton out of the game before he did more damage was probably for the best. This was the most significant action that the veteran corner had seen since he returned from his shoulder injury. It’s possible that it tightened up on him as he’s still acclimating in his return from the PUP list.
Escaping injury-free is always the biggest goal during the preseason and the team seems to have done a good job of that this week. Obviously, some injuries can pop up after the game, but they’re typically ticky-tacky in variety and nothing that a little rest won’t fix.
