Chiefs injury update: LG Kelechi Osemele returns to training camp practice

The Kansas City Chiefs were back at training camp for practice on Thursday. With just a few more days of practice before the end of camp, the Chiefs are only opening their stretch and warmup period to the media.

Here is the full list of players that weren’t at practice today:

  • DE Alex Okafor (Calf)
  • DE Mike Danna (Calf)
  • DT Derrick Nnadi (Ankle)
  • OT Yasir Durant (Head)
  • WR Gehrig Dieter (Groin)
  • TE Deon Yelder (Groin)
  • OT Martinas Rankin (PUP)

Returning to practice, according to KC Star beat reporter Herbie Teope, was Chiefs’ starting LG Kelechi Osemele. Osemele had missed the past two practices with a shoulder injury. His injury was notable because he had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder last year. Fans can stop holding their breath now that he’s returned to practice.

Teope also noted that DT Chris Jones was working with the training staff, but in pads during the portion of practice open to the media. The team later confirmed by the Chiefs that Jones was a full participant in practice. Kansas City can hardly afford another injury at the defensive tackle position right now. Mike Pennel has been suspended for the first two games to start the season. Derrick Nnadi is still sidelined with an ankle injury. Another injury would leave that group shorthanded going into the season opener.

It’s concerning that Okafor, Danna and Yelder haven’t yet returned from injury. Their statuses heading into the season are very much so up in the air.
