Chiefs injury update following Thursday’s practice

The Kansas City Chiefs were back at practice on Thursday. This is their last practice of the week before they face the 49ers during Saturday’s preseason game. Typically if you don’t practice during the last practice for Andy Reid, you’re unlikely to play in the upcoming game.

Tyrann Mathieu was back at practice in full after suffering a shoulder injury during the Chiefs’ preseason game against the Steelers. Andy Reid sounded skeptical following today’s practice that Mathieu would suit up and play this weekend. They’ll likely continue to err on the side of caution with his injury as they should.

Here’s a look at all the players who didn’t practice today:

  • DE Tim Ward – NFI
  • LB Darius Harris – NFI
  • WR Gehrig Dieter – Back
  • TE John Lovett – Shoulder
  • TE Deon Yelder – Ankle
  • CB Michael Hunter – Groin
  • DE Breeland Speaks – Knee

Again, no big updates from the previous practice.

Reid finally provided an update on Speaks and described the injury as swelling. Speaks is still meeting with doctors regarding said swelling. Reid couldn’t give any specifics on a particular injury other than pointing to the swelling in his knee. Hopefully, when it subsides they can give us a better idea of the extent of the injury.

I don’t expect any of the players that missed practice to suit up for this week’s preseason game against the 49ers. There’s an off chance that Mathieu convinces the coaches to let him get a few snaps.
