Chiefs injury, absence updates from mandatory minicamp

Things were mostly status quo as far were concerned at Day 2 of mandatory minicamp for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The following players continue to be absent from mandatory minicamp: Chris Jones, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Juan Thornhill, Deon Yelder and Cameron Erving. If you’re curious about why those players are absent please refer to our Day 1 injury and absence update post.

There were two new absences reported during Wednesday’s practice. Center Jimmy Murray who went down with a leg injury during Day 1 wasn’t at practice on Day 2. We’ve yet to hear from Andy Reid, so we don’t know what type of injury Murray is dealing with.

According to Arrowhead Pride’s Pete Sweeney, there was a noticeable uptick in work for both rookie center Nick Allegretti, and second-year interior offensive lineman Kahlil McKenzie. Sweeney noted that McKenzie did snapping during 7-on-7 drills. McKenzie needs to be able to do as much as possible in his second season if he’s going to have a chance to stick to this roster.

In addition to Murray’s absence, the Chiefs were also missing undrafted free agent cornerback Jalin Burrell. According to the Kansas City Star’s Brooke Pryor, Burrell hasn’t been in attendance at practice dating back to OTAs. Burrell was waived with a non-football illness designation. If he clears waivers he’ll be back with the team, but on the NFI list until he recovers or reaches a contract settlement with the team.
