Chiefs in attendance for Illinois pro day

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to make the rounds in the pro day circuit ahead of the 2020 NFL draft.

Area scout Terry Delp was in attendance for the University of Illinois pro day. This pro day was particularly important for fact-gathering as none of the Fighting Illini players were invited to the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

In 2019, Illinois put together one of their best seasons in recent history, becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 2014. Their success came with trust in head coach Lovie Smith and the hard work of many upper-classmen. Those upper-classmen are now departing with hopes of building an NFL career.

It’s important to note that the Chiefs drafted former Illini offensive lineman Nick Allegretti in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft. He also wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine that season. Allegretti did, however, make an impression on the Chiefs after his performance at his pro day.

Several players from this draft class such as RB Reggie Corbin, LB Dele Harding and DE/LB Oluwole Betiku will have a chance to make a similar impression on NFL teams and get themselves drafted. Corbin and Harding were both participants in the 2020 East-West Shrine Game. Betiku declared as an underclassman but was a standout during the 2019 season with 13 tackles for loss and nine sacks in 10 games played. Others will make teams as priority undrafted free agents and those connections begin at the pro day.
