Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates ahead of training camp

Kansas City Chiefs rookies, quarterbacks and injured players reported to training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri on Friday, July 22.

With the offseason now in the rearview and football season rapidly approaching, Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided some early updates on injured players. There are a few injuries that we knew about, but he confirmed one injury to a rookie that is both new and old.

“Rashad Fenton had shoulder surgery,” Reid began. “Lucas Niang had knee surgery. These guys will be up here, but they won’t be practicing. Justyn Ross had foot surgery. He won’t be will be practicing either.”

Reid added that everyone else is good to go for training camp besides those three players.

“Everybody else is back and rolling,” Reid said. “So we’re in good shape.”

All three of the injured players are expected to start on the PUP list according to Reid.

“I would tell you, no (they won’t be practicing),” Reid said. “Yeah, they’ll start on PUP, but they won’t be practicing.”

The injury for Ross isn’t exactly a new one according to Reid. He says that the surgery to repair his foot injury suffered at Clemson last season didn’t have the effect that they’d hoped. This surgery was done to hopefully correct that issue once and for all.

“It was a little bit off of the surgery he had before (at Clemson),” Reid said. ” It wasn’t functioning quite the way that — it was bothering him. It wasn’t working quite the way he wanted it to. So they went in and redid it. We’re hoping that this works out well.”

As for a timeline for his recovery, it sounds like this could last for the duration of training camp and potentially longer.

“I don’t (have a timeline), but it’s going to take time,” Reid concluded.
