Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates after loss to Titans

The Kansas City Chiefs had a few big injuries during their Week 7 loss to the Tennessee Titans, but good news came following the game on the most concerning injury of all.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided reporters with updates after the game, informing them on the condition of star QB Patrick Mahomes, who took a big hit and was knocked out of the game late in the fourth quarter. Mahomes was visibly shaken and needed to be assisted off of the field, but he cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on the sideline before the game concluded.

“As far as the injuries go, Pat (Mahomes) was in the concussion protocol,” Reid began. “He cleared it and then I decided not to put him back in.”

The decision to hold Mahomes out of the game was one made out of an abundance of caution according to Reid. At that point, the game was already well in hand for the Titans and putting Mahomes back in the game only put him at risk. Reid confirmed that Mahomes should be good to go for next week’s “Monday Night Football” game against the New York Giants.

Reid also revealed that two important defenders were also battling with injuries during the course of the game. Neither injury seems to be too serious by the sound of things.

“Chris Jones strained his groin,” Reid continued. “Tyrann (Mathieu) just hurt his ribs a little bit. We were pretty good after that, we came out of it pretty healthy.”

Overall, it seems like the biggest injury suffered today was to the pride of a team that feels they’re better than their performance on Sunday indicated. They’ll look to put up a better performance in prime time in Week 8.
