Chiefs HC Andy Reid is proud of the defensive line’s performance vs. Chargers

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the Los Angeles Chargers showcased a revitalized offense and resilient defense in the second half. Returning veteran defensive lineman, Charles Omenihu was the additional spark needed on Sunday as he fit in immediately with the Chiefs unit.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke highly of his defensive line and the pressure it applied on the Chargers passing game. He shared this with reporters during his weekly Monday Zoom press conference.

“That’s a good offensive line; I’d tell you that I thought our (defensive line) worked well together. I thought Joe (Cullen) had a good plan for them upfront. We have talent there,” Reis explained. “I mentioned this last night. Mike Danna doesn’t get mentioned much. George (Karlaftis) doesn’t get mentioned much, (Derrick) Nnadi, all these guys kind of get buried in the mix, but those are all good football players.”

The Chiefs defensive line disrupted Justin Herbert throughout the second half, shutting out the Chargers offense. Three of the five sacks came from Cullen’s defensive line unit.

“Not that Chris (Jones) doesn’t deserve the accolades. He definitely does,” Reid said. “He plays at a very high level, arguably the best or one of the best in this league at what he does. Then you add Charles (Omenihu) in the mix here; that’s good stuff. It’s a good group.”

The Chiefs’ defensive line also forced two interceptions with a significant amount of pressure on Herbert as the unit continued to take advantage of takeaways.
