One of the final training camp practices of the year isn’t going so smoothly for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Early in practice before any team drills had occurred, Chiefs DT Chris Jones exited practice early. He rode in the front of the cart up the hill in St. Joe, he didn’t appear to be in any noticeable discomfort and has yet to return to practice. That’s something to monitor, but not overly concerning in the grand scheme of things.

Later in practice, Mecole Hardman sustained an apparent injury after catching multiple touchdowns in the team’s red zone period.

According to several reporters in attendance, Hardman went for a contested grab as the red zone work continued. Hardman landed awkwardly and stayed on the ground a while before getting up. He hobbled off the field with the team’s training staff, including head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder, who was working on Hardman’s left leg in the medical tent at practice.

Hardman eventually left practice in the front seat of the cart. He was said to have walked to the cart under his own power before leaving up the hill in the cart.

The team will have official updates on Jones and Hardman after practice. These types of things are not what you hope to see at the conclusion of training camp ahead of the team’s second preseason game. Hopefully, neither situation turns out to be a serious injury that would cause either player to miss time.
