The Kansas City Chiefs’ departing free agents in 2019 did not earn the team a compensatory pick for the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs were not projected to receive a compensatory pick for 2020. They lost qualifying free agents WR Chris Conley, C Mitch Morse, CB Steven Nelson and TE Demetrius Harris in 2019. But they also signed DB Tyrann Mathieu, DE Alex Okafor, LB Damien Wilson and CB Bashaud Breeland who canceled out those four signings.
Since 1994, the NFL has awarded the Chiefs 25 total compensatory picks. That includes the latest pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, which they used to select RB Darwin Thompson in the sixth round. So far they’ve turned those picks into 21 players, with several ending up as long-term contributors.

Keep in mind that you can now trade compensatory picks, so it is possible that Kansas City could acquire one from another team. With the introduction of compensatory picks, there will be a new draft order and we’ll know the official draft slots for the Chiefs’ fourth and fifth-round selections in 2020.
