Chiefs DE Frank Clark charged for second offseason arrest

Kansas City Chiefs DE Frank Clark is now facing charges for his second offseason arrest which occurred in June.

TMZ had an initial story that Clark had been charged in the incident but neglected to confirm the charges. KSHB-TV confirmed on Monday that Clark had officially been charged with an additional count of possession of an assault weapon for the June incident.

Clark already plead not guilty to the same charge stemming from an earlier offseason arrest in March. Officers allegedly found firearms in a bag in the back seat on a routine stop in LA County for not displaying a front license plate. In June, Clark was pulled over a second time for a different vehicle code violation. During the stop, an officer allegedly spotted a firearm in a bag, just as they did in the previous arrest.

The 2021 NFL season is just Clark’s third season in Kansas City after joining the team via trade with Seattle Seahawks back in 2019. The 28-year-old signed a five-year contract extension with the Chiefs which made him the highest-paid defensive player on the team. Clark has played in just four games this season, recording seven tackles, a tackle for loss and 12 pressures. He was sidelined early in the season with two separate hamstring injuries that kept him out for a total of three games.

Clark is next due in court on January 17, 2022, which could coincide with a playoff appearance should the Chiefs advance. This court date was set after Clark’s not guilty plea, so it’s unclear if he’ll be arraigned on the new charge at this time.
